MERCY AND JUSTICE - We are pleased to present a list of some of the ministry groups at St. James that are dedicated to extending mercy and advocating for justice in our community. These groups work tirelessly to support and uplift our neighbors in need, embodying the core values of compassion and social responsibility. From initiatives addressing hunger relief to those advocating for social justice, each group plays a crucial role in making a positive impact on the lives of others. We invite you to explore these opportunities for service and collaboration, as together, we strive to create a more just and compassionate society for all.

DOORSTEP - Are you looking for a way to serve your community and show God's love to those in need? Look no further than our Doorstep Ministry program! Our amazing volunteers provide bagged lunches filled with a cheese sandwich, fruit cup, snack crackers, pudding, and water to unhoused and low-income individuals who visit our church. But that's not all - we also offer referrals for assistance with utility bills, rent and clothing. Our volunteers distribute bagged lunches Monday through Thursday from 11:30 am to 1 pm, and can be found answering the telephone from 9 am to 4 pm. HELPING HANDS - Looking to make a difference in your community through a compassionate feeding ministry? Our Helping Hands volunteers are dishing out support to those in need through our Helping Hands food assistance program! From hearty soups to tasty sandwiches, breakfast casseroles, and bags of groceries, our Helping Hands team serves up smiles to around 20 neighbors each time they offer food assistance on alternate Saturday mornings from 9 am - 10 am. VOLUNTEER MINISTRY CENTER - Calling all food enthusiasts and community champions! Are you ready to dish out some kindness and serve up hot meals at the Volunteer Ministry Center at 511 N. Broadway, just down the street? Our VMC meal serving teams spread joy by serving lasagna, BBQ sandwiches, and more! On every second Wednesday, we serve lasagna, salad, bread, and dessert. On every fourth Thursday, we serve Bar-b-q sandwiches, potato salad, beans, and dessert. It's a wonderful experience to meet and help the clients and staff at the Volunteer Ministry Center. JUSTICE KNOX - Are you passionate about promoting justice and fairness in our community? Our Justice Knox members work with over 20 other faith communities to fulfill God's commandment of acting justly and creating a more just Knoxville. Our team leaders hold House Meetings every fall to listen to concerns from ourselves, our families, and our neighbors. We then collaborate with community leaders to bring about necessary changes and host our annual Nehemiah Action Assembly in May where over 1200 Justice Knox Network Members, friends, and neighbors urge officials to implement these changes. ALLIES of KNOXVILLE'S IMMIGRANT NEIGHBORS - Here at St. James, we proudly provide meeting space and support for Allies of Knoxvilles Immigrant Neighbors AKIN! This fantastic group in Knoxville is dedicated to fostering conversations, enhancing understanding, supporting immigrant and refugee communities, encouraging civic engagement, advocating for fair immigration policies, and nurturing a welcoming environment where every individual is valued and respected for their contributions. PRISON MINISTRY - Our Prison Ministry group believes in offering support, guidance, and hope to incarcerated individuals to promote personal growth and reduce the likelihood of reoffending. We strive to help inmates rehabilitate and transform while in prison through spiritual guidance, compassion, and forgiveness. Our services include mindfulness meditation classes, visits to the maximum security wing, sending books, writing letters, assisting with release plans, and providing greeting cards to help inmates connect with their families. We are always looking for volunteers who share our passion for helping others and making a difference in their lives.
