Burton was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, and received his early training in art at the Meinzinger School of Art in Detroit, Michigan. He is one of Tennessee's most respected and talented artists, known for over 35 years in this area and across the United States for his beautiful watercolors, World's Fair posters, and his series of Smoky Mountain posters. He is listed in "Renowned Artists 1982-83"; "Men of Achievement 1993-94"; and many other publications. The walls of his studio in Sevier County are graced with over 200 awards and ribbons for recognition of his professional fine art.
